This policy explains how the campaign to elect Stephen Johnston as Mayor of West Kelowna handles the personal information you share through this website or by email. British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) governs how we collect, use and share it.
Who is responsible
Stephen Johnston is responsible for the campaign’s handling of personal information. Send privacy questions or requests to stephen@stephenjohnston.ca.
What we collect
When you use the contact form, we collect your name, your email address, and your phone number and message if you include them. When you email us, we receive what you send.
This website uses no analytics, advertising trackers or tracking cookies. Photos, videos and fonts load from our own server. The Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn icons are plain links, and those companies’ own privacy policies apply once you visit them.
Like any website, our hosting provider handles technical details such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and keep the site secure. We check your IP address when you submit the form to limit repeated submissions, and we do not store it with your message.
How we use it
We use your information to reply to you and to follow up on what you asked about, such as a question, an idea or an offer to volunteer. We will add you to a mailing list or send you campaign updates only if you ask us to.
We do not sell, rent or trade your information.
Who sees it
Stephen and the few campaign team members who help him manage messages can read what you send. We share it outside the campaign only with the service providers listed below, or when the law requires it.
Service providers
- Railway hosts this website.
- Resend delivers contact form messages to the campaign inbox.
- Google Workspace provides the campaign’s email.
These providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States and Europe, and the laws of those places apply to it there.
How long we keep it
We keep your message and contact details as long as the campaign needs them to respond and follow up. After the October 17, 2026 election, we will delete the information we no longer need, unless you asked to stay in touch or the law requires us to keep it.
How we protect it
The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Only campaign team members who need your information can access it, through password-protected accounts.
Your choices
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or withdraw your consent and have us delete it. Email stephen@stephenjohnston.ca and we will respond within 30 business days, as PIPA requires.
If you have a concern, please contact us first so we can fix it. You can also contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
